    Hats off
The Carroll County Soccer Association has ended another great season. Fun and exercise on the field will be greatly missed by my two kids. They have been challenged, sharpened and encouraged by the coaches willing to volunteer their time and love for the game. A great big thank you to Coach Bob, Coach Marion, Coach George, Coach Chris and Coach Eric and all the other coaches who are willing to invest in young people.

    Had to laugh
Hurray for columnist Todd Jennings’ debunking session. You did a good job, Todd. I had a real good laugh.

    Wide median
I’m wondering why the median at the intersection of Lafayette and Center Street in Galax is so wide. They take up half of the street width and also whoever is in charge needs to remove the barrels off the median. They are an eyesore.

    Making spirits bright
The Highland Camerata concert was phenomenal Friday night at Brush Creek Hall in Independence. When I closed my eyes I felt if I were in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the [Mormon Tabernacle], listening to the choir. If the Highland Camerata had just sung the Hallelujah Chorus, I would have been sure I had been transported to another place. Thanks to all the Camerata members. It was wonderful. Thank you for making spirits bright.

    Won’t turn his back
I called last week. You labeled it as Obama’s Coalition. I didn’t get to finish my message. I was making a comment about I heard people say that God will turn His back on this country because of the people we have leading this country. God will not turn his back on this country. He may take, and already has, our blessings away from us to where He had blessed us with so much. We as a country have turned our back on Him. He will never turn His back on us.

    Don’t mess with Texas
I am calling in regard to the comment about Texas. Texas is an honorable and wonderful state, and to draw the example of one person who behaved incorrectly is beyond my understanding. There are many Virginians who have done things that are humiliating and embarrassing. Please do not embarrass Texas or try to, with such stupid, inappropriate, selected facts. I don’t know your motive, but I will tell you as a Texan, don’t come to Texas and say something that stupid.

    Bring the soap
I am calling about the new store [located omitted] with the young man behind the counter with the vulgar mouth. I thought he had straightened up. I have been in there a few times lately and nothing was ever said. But, I was in there the other day and everything [he said was offensive]. He really does need his mouth washed out with soap. I will not be back in that store.

    Grateful

    Bible knowledge
“I thoroughly believe in a university education for both men and women. But I believe a knowledge of the Bible without a college course is more valuable than a college course without the Bible.” — William Lion Felts, professor and one-time president of Yale University.

    Editor's Note:
Last week, a caller asked for information about a local handmade laundry soap company. The company's contact information, according to owner Terry Russell, is 238-1337 or 233-5615.

    In shape
I woke to find out President Obama won. I prayed about this real hard and I know God elected Obama because he knew that’s what we needed to keep this country in the shape it needs to be in.

    Meddling parents
It’s obvious for Carroll County athletics, I don’t know what the fuss is over what district we play in. We won’t be competitive as long as athletics are run by the good ole boy network of parents.
