Hotline

Editor’s note: We received a few calls this week regarding our note on a Hotline call last week, about why a bread store had moved out of Galax to Carroll County. We mistakenly reported that one of the two bread stores was still open in Galax. After publication, we discovered that both bread stores, Merita and Flowers Bakery, have now moved out of the city. Sorry for the confusion.

    Community asset
Twin County Regional Hospital was an asset that belonged to the community. The asset was sold to Duke LifePoint a year ago. How much money is the community going to get, when will we get it, who will manage the money? When Wytheville and Danville hospitals received money, the community received millions of dollars.

    Dividing up
I hope the Grayson Recreation Department will stand up to the big names in Grayson County. It was so unfair to all the kids in Grayson County during basketball when the traveling team was not split up. I sincerely hope things will be different for baseball for the kids’ sake. Isn’t that what it’s all about?

    Tell us more
Come on people, let’s hear about who the cop was that hit the sign at Walmart. Everybody knows it happened because all the people were running out there.
Editor’s note: The matter was investigated by the police department and personnel action was taken. No charges or injuries were involved. If it were a civilian in a relatively minor accident in a public parking lot and there was no charge or injury, it likely would not be reported by the newspaper, therefore The Gazette is not publishing the name in this case.

    Lights on
I’m calling about the fog in Fancy Gap and Galax and everywhere else around. It is a law in Virginia to have your lights on and there are a lot of cars that don’t drive with their lights on in the rain and the fog. If the police would start ticketing them, maybe we wouldn’t have so many wrecks.

    Banner year for town
Editor’s note: Independence Town Manager Jerry Hughes last week issued this statement in response to two Hotline comments published in the March 25 edition of The Gazette, concerning why the town hasn’t changed its seasonal banners downtown:
