    Caution for Fries
You say government spends too much. Yet, when a few in Fries want a birding trail, you have your hand out for $185,000. Now, that is a little too much for a path down the riverbank. I have nothing against the fire department, but instead of a birding trail, maybe Fries needs some caution lights so when the firemen are doing 60 mph down Main Street with only a small light on their dash, people could be warned.

    Voice of dissent
I told my wife I cannot believe the American people are so stupid to re-elect Obama for president and today I read the Hotline article and realized, it is not just politics.

    Silly looks
I think these people are very silly that put these rings in their lips and on their nose. It looks terrible to me.

    White space
Just wanted to say “thank you, thank you, thank you” to The Gazette for the white space at the top of the page that now has the address logo instead of the label that was covering up part of the print.

    Beyond deer hunting
These automatic weapons that these idiots get hold of and kill people at schools and everywhere else, need to be done away with. A single-shot rifle is good enough for any deer hunter.

    Make Hillsville thrive
I just want to say what a great Christmas parade Hillsville had this year with all the entries and how long it lasted. I want to commend the new police chief, the mayor and the councilmen for a job well done. It has been a long time coming and they did a fantastic job. Keep up the good work to help this town thrive and become more for the community.

    Sticker shock
Nearly had a heart attack this week after getting my Appalachian Power bill of $198, when last month is was only $88. So, what’s going on?
Editor’s note: We’ll expect to hear from you again when it really gets cold.

    Hats off
The Carroll County Soccer Association has ended another great season. Fun and exercise on the field will be greatly missed by my two kids. They have been challenged, sharpened and encouraged by the coaches willing to volunteer their time and love for the game. A great big thank you to Coach Bob, Coach Marion, Coach George, Coach Chris and Coach Eric and all the other coaches who are willing to invest in young people.

    Had to laugh
Hurray for columnist Todd Jennings’ debunking session. You did a good job, Todd. I had a real good laugh.

    Wide median
I’m wondering why the median at the intersection of Lafayette and Center Street in Galax is so wide. They take up half of the street width and also whoever is in charge needs to remove the barrels off the median. They are an eyesore.

    Making spirits bright
The Highland Camerata concert was phenomenal Friday night at Brush Creek Hall in Independence. When I closed my eyes I felt if I were in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the [Mormon Tabernacle], listening to the choir. If the Highland Camerata had just sung the Hallelujah Chorus, I would have been sure I had been transported to another place. Thanks to all the Camerata members. It was wonderful. Thank you for making spirits bright.
