    A moving tribute
I was privileged to attend the Veterans Memorial Dedication at Galax. What a beautiful memorial it is. Anyone who has a family veteran that is not listed, it isn’t too late. They can still be listed. It’s a great way to memorialize your loved ones. I had tears in my eyes when I saw my husband’s. He was in World War II. I was so glad I had put his in. It’s a beautiful thing to do.

    Work hours
This is about one of the plants. Instead of paying us four hours on Memorial Day, when they stopped having those chicken dinners they should have started paying us for eight hours instead of four hours.

    Best gift ever
I got a surprise on my birthday from my nieces and nephews. They purchased me a seat at the Rex Theatre. That was the best gift I ever had. They put your name on a plaque. And, I would like to see The Rex give all the new seats and stay in good shape for the future. Go in together and buy a seat at the Rex Theatre.

    Don’t overlook wages
I keep reading about Grayson County and all they seem to be worried about is those high-tech bleachers the superintendent thinks he needs. What about the salaries of the people that work at the school like the maintenance, custodians, support staff, cafeteria workers, people like that? He really needs to look into that and so do the supervisors to see if maybe they can bring their wages up just a little bit. That would be greatly appreciated.

    People matter
I would like someone to put more recipes in The Gazette and old-timey remedies and folklore and things of days gone by. We are getting ahead of ourselves with these smart phones and computers and are moving away from what really matters in life, and that is each other and passing along stories and family traditions and recipes. We need to get back to our roots. Smart phones and computers aren’t everything. It’s the people in our lives that are.

    Community asset
I just want to say I appreciate our Li’L Country Store in our little area. The employees all are very friendly people and they have the best little deli. I thank them so much for what they do.

    Flying debris
When city employees mow the grass, can you please ask them to mow with the grass (and rocks or debris) flying away from the road and passing cars?

    Forgiven
This is for the person who stole the Bible out of my convertible, either at Fairview Church or at Mountain Surf. You know who you are. It has my name on it. Read it. Maybe you will learn something from it. I have forgiven you. I hope God has.
Editor’s note: The caller later notified the newspaper that the Bible was returned. The thief must have gotten to the “thou shalt not steal” part.
