    Many thanks
This is a great big thank you to Galax Pentecostal Holiness Church from Harmony Village for the wonderful meal you delivered to us on Thanksgiving Day. It was delicious and greatly appreciated by everyone. Thank you so very much and may God bless each and every one of you.

    Vultures overhead
When is Galax going to get rid of these vultures? We had Thanksgiving at my house and everybody was making comments about the vultures. They are nasty and it was very embarrassing. I think Galax needs to do something.

    Help the needy
I agree with the caller about the cold coffee and stale donuts church, all these big screen TVs and such. What these big churches need to do if they have the money to buy something like that is, try to get out in the community and help people in need instead of filling their pockets full.

    Send them away
Just look on the front page of the Nov. 16 paper —  three men were charged with selling meth and being armed [two of which are not U.S. citizens]. Now, they are sitting in our regional jail getting three meals a day, bed to sleep in and a TV to watch. The American people are paying for this. Get them out of this country. Send them back to their country and let their government foot the bill, because the American people are done with it. Good job to our police officers and God bless America.

    On the air
I want to thank AM radio station 1360 for continuing to have some of our religious programs during weekdays and also for giving out the local obituaries twice a day.

    Thinking of others
I would like to share with readers a wonderful thing that happened at First Christian Church in Galax on Nov. 10. A gentleman stopped by the church office and told the minister the Lord has spoken to him and he was to give the church a gift. He handed him 10 $100 bills. He did not want to divulge his name. Members want to thank him and let him know the funds were put in the food bank account to buy Christmas baskets for the needy in the community. May God bless him, also.

    Washboard on U.S. 52
Looks like a pretty good road we have now on U.S. 58 where there is repaving. Just a shame something can’t be done on U.S. 52 going down Fancy Gap Mountain where it has been patched. The patch is worse than the holes originally were. It is like a washboard going down. If that could be fixed, hey, that would be really great. But, for the 58 road, thanks for paving that road.

    Good ole Tabitha
Somewhere in Galax there is a utility locator employee named Tabitha. She gave me a jump when my old pickup died and I hope her boss knows what a good-hearted employee they have.

    Most efficient
I would like to thank Carroll and Grayson counties and Galax for the most convenient and efficient household hazardous disposal site provided on Oct. 29 at the landfill. The fellows working were so helpful and pleasant and we are helping the environment.

Editor’s note: We have grouped election-related Hotline comments into today’s edition in order to get them out of the way before Tuesday’s election. Calls received about other topics will appear in the Hotline on Wednesday. If you call to react to political comments below, your call may not be published if it’s more rehash. Because when it’s over, it’s over.

    Federal spending
Well, you stuck that Tea Party and Republican junk in and voted and look what a mess we are in now. I hope you are not thinking about still voting for a Republican after the do-nothing Congress has cut funds for veterans, teachers, nurses, doctors, schools. Anything that is important. Yet, Sen. Mitch McConnell was able to spend millions on the rich side of Kentucky for a fancy park, but that’s okay. People need to think about what they are doing. That First Lady would not be suitable either on that Republican side, if you ask me.
