    Coming across
How come the President can send 3,000 people to Africa to battle Ebola and he can’t send anybody to secure our border? And, the people that do anything to try to secure our border, you take them to court. You try to sue them for doing their job and obeying the law. What is the president’s number one job as far as protecting the people goes? Where does that fall in line with protecting the people that he is sworn to protect. How many people from this ISIS group have come across from Mexico?

    Unclear rules
My buddies and us like to sit in our trucks at Walmart and talk. I don’t understand why some weekends the police never say anything to us about sitting on the lot. They let us stay as long as we want and then on some weekends we barely get out of our trucks and the cops pull up and tell us we have to leave. Why do some cops let us hang out with our friends and they will even ride by and wave to us, and some cops run us off?

    Open borders
Why do you think the dangerous respiratory virus affecting children is suddenly spreading? The answer is the flood of illegal alien children pouring across the border. President Obama has spread them to towns and cities all across the country; secretly in many cases. The border patrol personnel say many are sick — undoubtedly with this virus and other more serious diseases as well.

    Scary times
What’s wrong with America first is that the government has tried to take God out of everything. You already know that. If you are a Christian and try to be a hard worker, you know that the government we have today is trying to take God out of it. It is so liberal that it is scary what will happen next. The courts have sided with Obama to pass all these sinful things that are going on. They are backing it up in every state. African Americans need to quit this racism card.

    In agreement
Hats off to John Kapp for the Sept. 8 guest editorial about the [proposed new school in Galax]. He hit the nails right on the head and I’m sure there are hundreds of people that agree with him. They should never have closed the Woodlawn School, much less talk about closing the Galax [elementary] school. My hat is off to you, John. Tell it like it is, because it is true.

    Hiking the parking lot
I’m a senior citizen, disabled. Why do all these grocery stores have plenty of handicapped parking and no shopping carts right beside of them and you have to walk — when you are really not able to do that — a good long ways to find a shopping cart? There is nothing beside the handicapped spaces. There should be something built beside of those. I just wonder if people realize this. It is very hard. One day I was trying to walk with my cane to find a shopping cart and I almost fell on the uneven pavement.

    Shortcut
I live on Main Street in Fries. I would like to know why every time Fries gets a fire or rescue call to Ivanhoe Road somewhere, they can’t cut up Hilltown Road to take a shortcut to Ivanhoe Road and save time instead of flying down Main Street with their lights and sirens wide open. Makes no sense to me. I used to be in rescue and I always thought every second saved was precious in saving someone’s life or home. I’m a taxpayer just like everyone else around here and I’d like to know.
