Hotline

    Good people
I’m a 73-year-old woman who don’t get around as good as I used to. I live in a low-income apartment. My neighbors are great. They helped me out during this bad snowstorm by getting my mail, taking my trash out, bringing me hot meals. They really helped me out. A lot of people think that people who live in low-income apartments are bad but we have a lot of good people in here. Oh yeah, we’ve got some bad ones in here, but so does your community.

    Familiar potholes
I’d like to comment about the potholes we run into every day on the road. I was told — I don’t know if I am right or not — but I was told the lottery money goes to pave our roads. You can play a game like I do. Give the potholes names. I have some I have been dodging for three years. I have got to call them a name, I know them so well. I hope you address this problem.
Editor’s note: Nope, 100 percent of lottery profits support Virginia public education for grades K-12.

    Closely held
The Carroll County supervisors need to appoint people other than themselves and their friends to the industrial development authority, public service authority and all the other committees. State law has finally caught up with what they have been doing for years.

    Too cold
I cannot believe school was not two hours late on Jan. 13, as cold as it is. Why isn’t it two hours late like the other schools, because the kids have to walk to the bus and it is cold to have to walk like this.

    Prices
I would sure like to see explanation as to why our gas isn’t coming way down. Also, I was wondering if people are watching the ounces of stuff you are buying like coffee and cereal. They keep cutting down on the ounces you are buying and charging you the same price or more for it. Pay attention to what is going on. This is not right the way these companies are doing poor people.
Editor’s note: AAA reported Jan. 14 that the average price of a gallon of regular gas was $1.754 in Virginia and $1.937 nationally.

Editor’s note: A number of calls to this week’s Hotline were omitted because of presumptions made against those who may have been involved in the case of a Grayson County toddler who died after being mauled by a dog. Such calls will not be published until the matter has run its course in the legal system.

    Harsher penalties
I saw Obama on the news wanting to take away our gun rights and doing an executive order. It ought to be against the law to kill somebody. I think it is. The problem is, you are just slapping them on the wrist when they commit a felony with a gun. Give them 20 years in jail and don’t let them out and see if it will get better.
