    This is funny. I know people that work in the food business but there is a restaurant owner who makes his people count every piece of chicken at night and put it up and freeze it and then turn around and re-sell it the next day. They are supposed to get rid of it. Boy, ain’t he greedy.

    This question is directed to the letter to the editor from Ron Pratt, “Firearms background check deserves debate.” While I agree with Mr. Pratt that we should have background checks, I strongly disagree with him quoting that 92 percent of the people want these checks. I don’t know where he is coming up with these figures. I think he needs to go back and look at some of the surveys. Nowhere have I seen 92 percent in favor of background checks, restrictions on rifles or restrictions on clips or magazines.

    Prevention tool
    Some people object to publication of photographs and crime descriptions in the newspaper. This shows that some people still have some shame with committing crimes. I think that this is a healthy sign and a deterrent to further criminal activity. I hope I never have my picture in the newspaper, but I believe this is an excellent crime prevention tool. People should think first. Crimes are harmful and shameful.

    Under arrest
    I am calling in reference to the gentleman that wrote from Independence about the drug arrest report feature. I think it is one of the best things the newspaper has done. I wish they would go one better and put their addresses in also because I like to know who is around my neighborhood doing some of these things.

    Now these Republicans are trying to go up on student loans. You can’t even get an education in this country anymore for the Republican Party.

    Finding help
    My car broke down Tuesday morning on Pipers Gap Road. Lots of cars went right on by. I don’t remember any names, but three vehicles stopped to help me and go make calls, since I was in a no-signal spot. They got the tow truck to me. One couple even came to the garage in Fancy Gap to see for sure I had made it okay. You know who you are, with the baby goats. Thank you all so much. God bless you all and I pray you will have help when you need it someday.

    Duplicating services
    I would like to know if Carroll County is in such a shortfall on the school board budget, why they are paying for two separate buses for sports to go to one location. Why are they even paying for cheerleaders to have a bus and driver to begin with? Why are we outsourcing mowing when we have janitors and the maintenance crew? Why are we sending school buses [out of town] and cars to local garages when we have approximately two to three mechanics in the bus garage?

    Incredibly silly
    This is in response to the lady that wanted the Town of Hillsville to put an ordinance against jake brakes for truck drivers. We really don’t have many truck drivers in town unless there is a tragedy on Interstate 77. You know there are so many things in this world that we could all be worried about and that just seems incredibly silly to me. I wish all drivers — independent, company drivers — would stop just for one week. They would be begging to hear a truck driver’s jake brake. Thank you for the Hotline.
