  • Carroll Christmas Fund kicks off campaign

    HILLSVILLE – The Carroll Christmas Fund (CCF) is getting prepared for another holiday season of donations to help make Christmas a little brighter for those less fortunate.

    The CCF began in 1997 delivering food boxes to 64 families in Carroll County and has grown each year since. Now, the fund provides food boxes, toys, coats, Bibles and other donations to almost 600 families and serves over 540 children.

Whatever.

  • Cavaliers buck Colonels

    HILLSVILLE –– Carroll County opened play in the Conference 24 volleyball tournament Monday night with the full support of its customarily-raucous student section. The Crazies were their usual vocal selves and, as was expected, the Cavaliers advanced to the semifinals.

  • Pair arrested for drugs at Carroll football game

    HILLSVILLE – Two men were arrested on charges of public intoxication at an area football game, which later led to drug charges.

    According to a report by Carroll County Sheriff J.B. Gardner, two men were arrested for public intoxication at the Carroll County vs. Pulaski County football game on Oct. 23.

    Upon arrest, deputies discovered that Brandon Tyler Whitaker, 22, of Dublin and Garrison Michael Thomas, 21, of Pulaski were in possession of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia the report said.

  • Three charged in sexual assault of juvenile

    Staff Report

    Three men were arrested on Oct. 23 and charged in connection with the sexual assault of a juvenile.

    According to a Galax Police Department report, Detective J.B. Greer charged the men for alleged violations that occurred Oct. 10. The three co-defendants are Anthony Curtis Caudell, 30; David Scott Gearheart, 31; and Brian Omar Braxton, 29.

  • Tractor-trailer overturns on Delhart Road

    A one-vehicle accident Monday at 2 p.m. in the 2200 block of Delhart Road in Baywood left no injuries, but substantial damage, according to Virginia State Trooper C.W. Keesling.

    Haleigh Grace Smith celebrated her third birthday Aug. 26 with a family birthday party at her grandparents’ house. She is the daughter of Cory and Elena Smith of Austinville.

    Her paternal grandparents are Charles and Sue Smith of Fries. Her maternal grandparents are Doug and Glenda Forester of Galax and the late James “Jimmy” Brewer Sr. of Fries.

  • Turns four

    Kaitlyn Grace Clontz celebrated her fourth birthday Sept. 4 with a Frozen party at her home with family and friends.

    She is the daughter of Danielle Clontz of Fries and Allen Keene of Roanoke. Her grandparents are Tim and Rebecca Clontz of Fries and Jerry and Barbara Keene of Tazewell.
