    I’m calling to thank The Gazette for publishing photographs of Carroll County Confederate veterans of the War Between the States. Thank you for reminding us that April is Confederate History Month in this Commonwealth of Virginia.

  • CCHS locked down Thursday after texted threat

    HILLSVILLE — Authorities locked down Carroll County High School after a male student not in the facility at the time Tweeted and texted a threat of violence against another student on Thursday, according to authorities.
    Carroll Sheriff J.B. Gardner confirmed that a 17-year-old male has been charged with electronically communicating a threat.
    Authorities did not identify the student involved, because he is a juvenile.

  • Police seek ambulance hit-and-run suspect

    Miguel Ortega Rodrigues, 23, of Sutherland Road in Galax, allegedly fled the scene after crashing into a Galax-Grayson EMS ambulance, said Galax Police Captain James Cox.
    The Galax Police Department is searching for Rodrigues, and plans to charge him with hit-and-run, driving on a suspended license and failing to obey a stop sign.

    Crystal Danielle Howell and Jeremy Kenneth Spencer were united in marriage Oct. 1, 2011 at Young’s Chapel Baptist Church in Mouth of Wilson.
    Rev. Douglas Turnmire officiated.

    A reception followed at the “Halsey House” in Mouth of Wilson.
    Crystal is the daughter of Danny and Nancy Howell of Jefferson, N.C.
    Jeremy is the son of Kenneth “Pooch” and Peggy Spencer of Rugby.
    The couple reside in Jefferson, N.C.

    Nancy Dixon Hickam of Galax announces the engagement of her daughter, Phyllis Elizabeth “Liz” Hickam to Gregory James Milans.
    Milans is the son of Tom and Debby Milans of Rockville, Md.

    Hickam is the daughter of Jim Hickam Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.
    She is the granddaughter of the late Glenn and Pearl Dixon of Galax and the late Jim Jack and Elizabeth Hickam of Bristol, Tenn.
