  • Carroll pitcher reaches milestone

    HILLSVILLE –– Lillie Kimble is far from being a professional athlete. She doesn’t play the stock market, the ponies or Texas hold ‘em. But she has earned 300K in a little more than two years.

    Kimble, Carroll County’s third-year starting pitcher, recorded the 300th strikeout of her career Saturday as the Cavaliers swept a pair of no-hit nondistrict softball wins from Galax.

  • Cavaliers earn sweep of Tide

    HILLSVILLE –– Galax was unable to get the go-ahead hit it needed in the first game of its double-header at Carroll County. The Cavaliers made sure the opportunity didn’t arise again.

    Carroll scored on a walk-off single to nip the Tide 5-4, then used a no-hitter by Ryan Gravley to secure a 3-0 win and claim a nondistrict sweep Saturday at Bill Worrell Field.

    Landowners with property on Stoots Mountain have been approached by representatives of EDP Renewables for a possible wind energy project, The Gazette has confirmed.

    "We own property at Stoots Mountain and we were approached by Horizon Wind Energy about having a wind farm," said property owner Dennis Ward.

  • Galax to hold candidate forum

    The third “Meet the Candidates” forum April 10 is a chance to get to know the candidates, see what they stand for and find out how they will represent the City of Galax.
    The forum sponsored by the Twin County Regional Chamber of Commerce starts at 7 p.m. at Crossroads Institute.
    Four candidates are vying for three seats set to expire June 30.
    The candidates include incumbents Bill Webb, Sharon Plichta and Bob Lazo, and newcomer Michael Stevens, who is chairman of the Galax Republican Party.
