  • Ground game chews up Rockets

Galax scored on every possession Friday night with its powerful running game en route to a 48-23 non-district win over Craig County on Homecoming.

The Tide (4-1) ran only 29 offensive plays—all of which were on the ground—but managed a season high 48 points to collect their fourth straight win over Craig County (3-2) and third straight win of the season.

The Peoples brothers once again shined, as big brother Donte Peoples needed only five carries to rack up 156 yards and two touchdowns.

  • Grayson bounces back big

INDEPENDENCE –– After absorbing a thorough clubbing by Grayson County last year, Clintwood went on to win 13 straight games, including a state championship. Grayson County incurred an equally-complete beatdown in Clintwood a week ago. Nobody is saying the Blue Devils will bounce back with 13 wins in a row, but they are off to a good start.

Grayson was nearly unstoppable on offense Friday night and concluded the nondistrict portion of its schedule with a 45-20 trouncing of Carroll County at Bill Strong Field.

    Missed the boat
Well, looks like the tree-hugging do-gooders of Carroll County are at it again. They are opposing a wind farm — something that could potentially help all of us around here, maybe even reduce our electric bill that Appalachian Power keeps raising. But they all got to oppose it and come up with an ordinance to ban any future way of putting any wind farm up. Way to go, Carroll County. I guess y’all missed the whole thing about trying to be energy independent and trying to reduce electric bills.

  • Okay, so now what for Carroll?

Providing there is not some unknown fissure lying under the New River, and that fissure doesn’t suddenly open up within the next few months and create some great, unbridgeable chasm, Carroll County will be in the River Ridge District beginning in the 2013-14 school year.

The VHSL’s executive committee Wednesday did reverse the redistricting and reclassification committee’s recommendation of also placing Franklin County into the RRD, but did not move on sending Carroll anywhere else.
