Home electricity customers will be charged about a half-percent more for service in 2012 as Appalachian Power Company makes up for investment in two out-of-state wind farms, the company said.
The increase is the result of the State Corporation Commission’s approval for Appalachian Power to recoup $6.3 million in renewable energy programs — in this case wind farms in West Virginia and Indiana. The SCC said on Thursday that it approved the raise.
INDEPENDENCE — Two Galax men were indicted by a Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury on malicious wounding charges.
Jason Lee Hill, 27, and Matthew Harris Brown, 23, accused each other of malicious wounding.
The grand jury met in Independence on Oct. 28.
An indictment indicates that the grand jury found sufficient evidence for a case to go to trial, and does not indicate guilt. All of those indicted are innocent until proven guilty.

According to the official VHSL pairings released Sunday evening, No. 1 Galax will host No. 16 Holston on Friday night in the opening round of the Division 1 Western Section playoffs, while No. 2 Grayson County will host a rematch with No. 15 Graham in the Division 2 first round Friday.
While 4.2 million voter information cards generated by the Virginia State Board of Elections were given to the postal service on Oct. 22, there may be voters who do not have their new cards to take to the polls on Tuesday.
Eligible voters who do not have their new voter information card may still vote using alternate identification such as a valid Virginia driver’s license.
A few localities individually mailed their own voter cards.
