  • Dickenson, Tomlinson engagement announced

    Joe Don and Pam Dickenson of Baywood announced the engagement of their daughter, Mary Elena Dickenson, to Brandon Dean Tomlinson, son of Herbert Dean and Lora Tomlinson of Fries.

    Tomlinson is a 2004 graduate of Grayson County High School and a 2008 graduate of Virginia Tech. He is employed as assistant manager at Cresthaven Farms in Baywood.
    Dickenson is a 2005 graduate of Grayson County High School and a 2008 graduate of Virginia Tech. She will graduate from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2012.

    Caelyn Brooke Nuckolls celebrated her third birthday Jan. 14, 2012, with a Rapunzel party.

    She is the daughter of Brandon and Brittney Nuckolls. Her grandparents are Theresa Gunter, Darrin and Julie Gunter, Al and Ruby Payne and David Nuckolls.

    Taylor Cheyanne Nuckolls celebrated her first birthday Feb. 23, 2012, with a Princess party.

    She is the daughter of Brandon and Brittney Nuckolls. Her grandparents are David Nuckolls, Al and Ruby Payne, Theresa Gunter and Darrin and Julie Gunter.

  • Grayson to hold hearing on Sunday alcohol sales

    INDEPENDENCE — The Grayson County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. April 12 to hear comments concerning a proposed amendment to the county’s Sunday beer and wine sales ordinance.
    The ordinance, in place for more than 70 years, prohibits the sale of beer and wine on Sundays.
    Supervisors have discussed lifting the ban at business owners’ request.
    According to Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control retail license records, the ordinance affects eight county businesses.

  • Richardson murder trial underway

    UPDATED: 3/27/12, 5:55 P.M.:

    The jury has recommended a total of nine years in prison for David Levelle Richardson: four years for the involuntary manslaughter, two years for discharging a firearm in the occupied dwelling and three years for use of a firearm.   • Carroll board changes plans for school construction

    HILLSVILLE — Two change orders approved last week for the Phase III construction projects could provide some relief to students at Carroll County’s intermediate and high schools.
    The Carroll School Board on March 19 approved a revision of $499,000 that will result in cooler classrooms for students at the intermediate school. The replacement of water lines and fixtures for $760,000 will lead to renovated bathrooms at the high school.
