INDEPENDENCE — Residents of Grange Hollow Road will have to wait until bids are received to see if they will be included in the new water system from the Town of Troutdale to the new school being built in the western end of Grayson County.

INDEPENDENCE — Grayson County will begin advertising for the position of county administrator Feb. 1.

The board of supervisors voted unanimously during its regular meeting earlier this month to begin looking for a replacement for retiring County Administrator Bill Ring.

Last summer, the board hired Mitch Smith as assistant county administrator. “The playing field is level and Mitch will have to apply just like everyone else and compete with the candidates,” Ring said.

Kenneth Ray Patton of Independence, guilty of failure to register as a sex offender; sentenced to 30 days in jail; pay $516 costs.

HILLSVILLE — It's been many a mile since the Carroll Wellness Center opened almost five years ago, and the non-profit fitness facility remains in step with the community's needs.

Members have put 1 million miles behind them on the 10 treadmills in those years, for example, said Executive Director Greg Hampton.

In just the first year, exercisers climbed 29,400 stories on the wellness center's step-mill alone — that's roughly equal to 288 Empire State Buildings.
