  • Guynn, Cox marry

    Kathy Guynn and Danny Cox of Hillsville were married May 22 in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
    Attending were the bride’s daughters, Lindsey Guynn and Megan Jennings; twin sister Joye Edwards; and great-niece Chloe Vaughn.
    A reception was held after the ceremony.

    Family also hosted a reception for the couple at the Elk’s Lodge in Galax on June 17.
    After a honeymoon in Myrtle Beach, S.C., the couple reside in Hillsville.

  • Police officer assaulted

    HILLSVILLE — A 20-year-old Hillsville man has been charged after allegedly resisting arrest while appearing drunk in public on Aug. 31, according to town police.
    Joshua Edward Stanley was taken into custody after an altercation on North Main Street at about 9:45 p.m., according to a news release from the Hillsville Police Department.
    Sgt. Alan Gravley approached to arrest Stanley, who appeared to be intoxicated

    Brayden Scott Ramey celebrated his second birthday on July 23 with a Buzz Lightyear party at home with family and friends. He is the son of Brian Ramey and Carri Davis.

    He has two sisters, Maci and Hallie Ramey. Grandparents are Paul and Gwen Sawyers and Lena Mae and the late Junior Ramey. Great-grandparents are James Davis, Annie Burcham and Andy and Mamie Sawyers.

  • Wiggins, Brannock united in marriage

    Ronald Tracy Brannock and Megan Wren Wiggins were united in marriage May 13, 2011. The Rev. Sammy Burnette performed the double-ring ceremony.

    The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, Roger Wiggins and Martha Wiggins of Baywood.
    Her maternal grandparents are Frank and Charlotte Pollard of Baywood. Paternal grandparents are the late James and Edna Wiggins of Elk Creek. Her maternal great-grandmother is Martha Mays of Baywood.

  • Harmon to serve 10 years

    ROANOKE — Dozens of citizens petitioned the federal court for sentencing leniency in the illegal drug case against Thomas Glen Harmon, 44, of Woodlawn.
    Dozens of signatures on petitions were submitted to U.S. Court Judge Glen Conrad in Roanoke at the Aug. 29 sentencing hearing for Harmon.
    Authorities had charged Harmon with conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine, a schedule II substance. He pleaded guilty to the charge in May, according to court documents.
