  • Carroll Pumpkin Festival

    HILLSVILLE — Carroll County got into the fall spirit for the annual Pumpkin Festival at the Southwest Virginia Farmers Market on Oct. 18.

    The festivities took place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and included fall-themed activities such as pumpkin carving, apple butter making, pumpkin cannons and a zombie trail ride.

  • Ashby, Brown to unite in marriage Oct. 18

    Mary Ashby and Terry Brown announced their wedding plans for this weekend.

    The wedding is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Baptist Church.

    Timber Abrianna Mundy celebrated her sixth birthday on Aug. 20 with a party at Chuck E. Cheese. Her sisters, Hope Gaynor and Taelynn Mundy, helped her celebrate along with many special friends and family.

    She is the daughter of John and Tammy Utt of Woodlawn and Tim and Britt Mundy of Max Meadows. Her maternal grandparents are Brenda Liddle and Emory Bearden of Woodlawn and Charles Liddle of Galax. Her paternal grandparents are Don and Mabelene Beverly and Wayne Mundy, all of Cana.

    Levi Dasher Bowers turned two Sept. 30. He celebrated Sept. 27 with a party at his home with family and friends. He is the son of Travis and Heather Bowers of Galax.

    His grandparents are Janice and the late Clarence Bowers, Paula Diamond of Galax and Dallas Diamond of Barren Springs. Great-grandparents include Ada Lee and Elmer Williams, the late Paul Haga, Dorothy and Paul Diamond, Ruby and the late Raymond Bowers and the late Audrey and Oacus Sizemore.

  • Andrews Farming announces 51 new jobs

    HILLSVILLE – The county filled the last building in the Carroll Industrial Park on Tuesday when Andrews Farming Inc. and its sister operation ANDCO Logistics Inc. announced plans to expand their operation, invest $5.6 million and hire 51 people over a three-year period.

  • Haynes and Barrett win at Abingdon, Conley second at prestigious Metro XC

    BRISTOL –– Carroll County runners Samuel Haynes and Tyler Barrett and Grayson County’s Mary Beth Cunningham all came home with championship medals after winning their respective divisions at the Abingdon Invitational cross country meet, held Wednesday at Sugar Hollow Park.

    An open event, runners were participating as individuals in divisions based on grades 6 through 12, with the top five in each division earning medals. No team scores were tabulated.

  • Grayson netters improve to 15-1

    INDEPENDENCE –– Grayson County continued to roll in Mountain Empire District volleyball Thursday as the Blue Devils swept a three-game match from Bland County 25-11, 25-3, 25-8.

    Autumn Halsey peppered the Bears with 10 aces while Camryn McGrady converted 15 of Taylor Cannaday’s 29 assists into kills for the Blue Devils (15-1).

  • Christiansburg shuts out Cavaliers

    CHRISTIANSBURG –– Alec Henderson ran for a pair of scores and C.J. Napper caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Charlie Jackson as Christiansburg blanked Carroll County 33-0 in a River Ridge District game Friday at Porterfield Stadium.
