    Caution: weed pun
I’m the guy that called about dope in Galax. All these places you go to work, they will give you a drug test. In the future, they will pick you, knowing the people that can pass it. They have a random drug test. I urge the people that have plants, have a plant-wide drug test and you will weed out a lot of the bad.

  • Grayson charges man with sexual abuse

A man has been arrested on charges involving child sexual abuse, in an ongoing investigation.

According to a news release from Grayson County Sheriff Richard Vaughan, investigators responded July 20 to complaints of child sexual abuse, made against Adam Lee Haga, 44.

Investigator Mico Davis interviewed Haga on July 26. The suspect was arrested and charged with forcible sodomy, a felony in Virginia, and taken before the magistrate for a bond hearing, Vaughan said.

  • Bridges honor officers lost in line of duty

HILLSVILLE — Families of two Carroll County law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty gathered Aug. 3 at bridges now dedicated to their loved ones’ memories.

Emery Mabry was a deputy killed in the 1970s after pulling over a car, while Sheriff Lewis Webb died over a century ago in one of the county’s most infamous incidents.

Though removed in time, those losses still weigh on the officers’ families, and line-of-duty deaths are a freshly painful topic due to the tragic loss of a Carroll deputy in March.

    Sidewalks a necessity
The City of Galax needs to build a sidewalk on both sides of U.S. 58 going toward the cinema, toward Walmart and toward Crossroads Institute. Lots of people walk along the sides of the road. Many people do not have transportation. Others would like to ride their bicycles. I also see women pushing baby carriages. Galax definitely needs sidewalks on both sides of 58 so that citizens and tourists can walk and bike through that area to the shopping center and to Crossroads. This would serve many people and is a necessity.
