  • Grayson grand jury indicts 8

    INDEPENDENCE – Sealed indictments against eight suspects have been opened and those charged have been arrested in Grayson County.

    A Grayson Circuit Court grand jury met Oct. 27 and handed down the indictments for drug violations and other charges. Some were sealed until arrest warrants could be served.

    Jim and Frances Boyer celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family at The Depot in Dobson, N.C.

    They were married Oct. 25, 1947. They have three daughters and sons-in-law: Peggy and Wade Billings, Patsy and Charles Sturgill and Debra and Ricky Edwards. They also have five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

    Mr. and Mrs. Michael Shelton of Slidell, La., announced the engagement of their daughter, Kelsey Marie, to Dustin Ray Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Anderson of Troutdale.

    Shelton’s grandparents are Phil and Sharon Bressler of State College, Pa., and the late Leta Dugas Bergeron of Morgan City, La. Her great-grandmother is Mary Kammerzell of Concord, Ca.
    Anderson’s grandparents are Ray and Nancy Anderson of Troutdale, Dewey and Robeana Teaster of Marion and the late Alma Teaster.

  • Feds to sentence 21 on drug charges

    ABINGDON – Following a federal investigation, 21 defendants have entered guilty pleas related to the distribution of methamphetamine and firearms possession in Southwest Virginia and North Carolina.

    U.S. Attorney Rick A. Mountcastle said Tuesday that Operation Rolling Thunder — an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and local law enforcement — has resulted in the dismantling of a meth trafficking organization in the region.

  • Chapman indicted on murder charge

    Staff Report

    HILLSVILLE – A Roanoke woman was indicted on a charge of first-degree murder by a Carroll County Circuit Court grand jury that met Monday in Hillsville.

    Yashisca Dushawn Richardson Chapman, 39, allegedly stabbed Roland Eugene Clayton Jr., 51, of Roanoke, on June 22 at the Galax Motel.

    When Galax police arrived on the scene of the stabbing, Clayton was found on the floor in Room 11 with multiple stab wounds. Officers found three knives in the room, one of which was in Clayton’s chest.
