  • Galax man charged with meth distribution

    A Galax man has been arrested and charged in connection with the distribution of methamphetamine.
    Pablo Aguilar-Ramirez, 29, was taken into custody by members of the Galax Police Department and the Twin County Drug Task Force near his home on Meadow Street on Oct. 17, after an investigation of his alleged involvement in meth distribution, according to Galax Police Chief Rick Clark.

  • Multi-vehicle crash results in fatality

    Carroll County first responders were called to Fancy Gap Mountain on Tuesday afternoon after a multi-vehicle accident resulted in one fatality.
    Virginia 
State Police confirmed that James Cody Lineberry, 22, of Hillsville, was killed in the accident, which involved a total of three vehicles.


  • Chase in two states end with crash

    A 29-year-old Galax woman faces several charges following a low-speed pursuit Saturday night that started in Galax, continued into Grayson County and Alleghany County, N.C., and ended back in Galax.
    Capt. James Cox of the Galax Police Department said Officer Trevor Jefferson spotted a Ford Mustang parked behind Hillcrest Baptist Church on Virginia 89/South Main Street around 10:15 p.m. on Oct. 12. When he pulled up behind the vehicle, the driver, identified as Amber Blevins, pulled off and headed south on 89.

  • Fatal shooting under investigation

    HILLSVILLE — Authorities received a report of an accidental fatal shooting at 70 Rippey Hollow Road in Pipers Gap involving a 29-year-old man last Wednesday.
    Law enforcement got the call just before 9 p.m., according to Carroll Sheriff J.B. Gardner.
    Police identify the man killed as Kevin Heath Frazier.

  • Police: suspect impersonating Grayson officer

    INDEPENDENCE — The Grayson County Sheriff’s Department is warning citizens of an unidentified man who is posing as a law enforcement officer.
    A college student was traveling east on U.S. 58 at around 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 when a vehicle with flashing blue and red lights attached to the driver’s visor of a white Buick pulled him over at the wayside near Baywood.

  • 3 airlifted after Hillsville bypass crash

    HILLSVILLE — A 27-year-old Bassett woman and two juveniles were flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., for treatment after a single-vehicle wreck on U.S. 58 bypass at Hillsville last Friday evening.

  • Fatal parkway crash under investigation

    FANCY GAP — National Park Service rangers continue to investigate a possible cause in a fatal wreck Sept. 25 near the 192 mile marker of the Blue Ridge Parkway, involving a 70-year-old Ararat man.
    The incident occurred at about 10:15 a.m., when Bobby Ray Caviness was driving a vehicle north on the parkway, not far from the Willis Gap area at the Carroll and Patrick county line, according to Ranger Bobby Miller.
    At that time, Caviness’ vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 33-foot recreational vehicle, almost head on.

  • Break-in investigation leads to drug charges

    HILLSVILLE — A 54-year-old Hillsville man called town police to investigate a break-in at his home, but now faces several charges himself after officers found illegal drugs and alcohol during their time at the residence.
    Police responded to the home of Michael Andrew Reece on Sept. 16 on the initial report, according to Chief Greg Bolen.

  • Two seriously injured in motorcycle crash

    The Galax Police Department and the Virginia Sate Police accident reconstruction team on Monday were still investigating an automobile accident that occurred on Reserve Boulevard/U.S. 58 in Galax on Sunday.
    Officers confirmed in a news release that the accident caused life-threatening injuries to a motorcycle driver and his passenger.
