  • FBI, border patrol join search for missing teen

     UPDATE 4/23/13 — Local authorities have pulled in the FBI and border patrols in their search for a missing 15-year-old teen.

    Family members of Desiree Travers believe that she ran away from home April 19 with 22-year-old Carlos Enrique Reyna, a Hispanic male.

  • Police to take back prescription drugs

    On April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and the Galax Police Department will join with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to give the public its sixth opportunity in three years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.
    In Grayson, citizens should bring medications for disposal to their local fire and rescue department.

  • Local woman, two boys found

    UPDATE — The missing persons from Hillsville have been located by the authorities, according to an update from Police Chief Greg Bolen.

    "All people missing have been found," Bolen posted on the town police department's Facebook page. "Both kids and the mother were located in the town of Hillsville. "Thank you all for your help and quick response. Thank you as well to Sheriff J.B. Gardner and his staff for the tip that helped locate her."

  • New K9 cop joins force

    HILLSVILLE — While the Carroll law enforcement officers have each other’s backs, Deputy David Walls has such a loyal partner, they’re together practically all the time.
    Pike, an 18-month-old, mostly black German shepherd from Holland, recently went through two weeks of intensive training with Walls as the newest addition to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office forces.

  • Winds cause damage to Coon Ridge

    HILLSVILLE — High winds caused damage to around nine homes, two with significant damage, in an area around the Coon Ridge Road-U.S. 52 intersection early Friday morning.

    Hillsville Fire Department, Carroll Fire Rescue, Carroll Sheriff's Department and Virginia State Police members responded to the scene after wind gusts damaged several roofs and porches on the homes over about a quarter mile area at 3 a.m., according to Trooper Chuck Campbell. The same winds damaged some outbuildings and caused a tree to fall across U.S. 52 near Hanging Tree Road.

  • 'Most wanted' caught by U.S. Marshals

     

    GREENSBORO, N.C. ― A man who had been declared a "most wanted" subject by the Carroll County law enforcement was caught April 10 in a joint U.S. Marshals Service and Surry County (N.C.) Sheriff's Office operation.
