HILLSVILLE — Increased calls for law enforcement at this year’s Labor Day Flea Market and Gun Show kept police pretty busy this year.
Hillsville officers investigated a variety of incidents that occurred from Thursday to Monday during the huge holiday weekend shopping spree that stretches for about a mile along U.S. 58 on the west side of town.

HILLSVILLE — Shoppers by the thousands are expected to descend on the Hillsville gun show and flea market, as well as the Sylvatus flea market and numerous yard sales, this weekend.
Roads in the vicinity are expected to be clogged with shoppers galore, so the Virginia Department of Transportation issued the following traffic advisory.
Travelers heading to the annual Labor Day weekend flea market should be prepared for considerable traffic delays.

A bobcat in the Elk Creek area of Grayson County was recently tested and confirmed to have rabies.
This animal potentially could have had contact with local pets and livestock. Rabies is a deadly viral disease. Unvaccinated dogs, cats and ferrets with no known exposure to a potentially rabid animal should be vaccinated immediately.
State law requires pet owners to keep their pets current on rabies vaccinations for animals ages four months or older. Residents should not approach or touch wild animals and should report any abnormal behavior involving wild animals.
