  • Hillsville man charged with grand larceny

    HILLSVILLE — A Hillsville man faces charges of breaking and entering and grand larceny from places in Carroll County, according to Sheriff J.B. Gardner.

  • Expect delays on U.S. 58 in Carroll

    As part of the road construction project to widen a 8.2-mile section of Route 58 that passes through Patrick, Floyd and Carroll counties, a pipe will be installed beneath Route 58 in Carroll County at its intersection with Route 654 (Gladesboro Road).

    Weather permitting, starting at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, flaggers will be controlling traffic on Route 58 at the Route 654 intersection around the clock for approximately 48 hours until work is completed on Friday.

  • Baldwin wanted for assault

     HILLSVILLE — Carroll County Sheriff's Office has put out an alert for a 33-year-old man for felony assault.

    Information from the sheriff's office states that Justin Lee Baldwin was last seen in Florida but has ties to the Carroll area.

  • Wreck results in major injuries

    FANCY GAP — Major injuries resulted from a single-vehicle wreck on U.S. 52 when the driver blacked out while behind the wheel Wednesday morning, according to a Virginia State Police report.
    The 2000 Mustang, being driven by Sonya Bowman, 38, of Fancy Gap, went off the road to the right and struck a tree, about 2.5 miles south of Virginia 608, according to Trooper R.B. Phipps. The tree kept the vehicle from rolling down the sizable embankment there.
    Phipps took a statement from passenger Michael Kevin Payne about the driver blacking out.

  • Motorcyclist charged after police chase

    HILLSVILLE — Carroll County deputies charged a 34-year-old Galax man Sunday after he allegedly tried to elude officers and ditch a pistol in the Hebron community, according to police reports.

  • State police cite hundreds for texting while driving

    Since the act of texting while driving became a primary offense July 1, Virginia State Police troopers have cited several hundred motorists statewide.
    From July 1 through Sept. 28, troopers have stopped and charged 328 drivers for violating Virginia’s “texting while driving” law, according to a state police news release.

  • Galax man charged with meth distribution

    A Galax man has been arrested and charged in connection with the distribution of methamphetamine.
    Pablo Aguilar-Ramirez, 29, was taken into custody by members of the Galax Police Department and the Twin County Drug Task Force near his home on Meadow Street on Oct. 17, after an investigation of his alleged involvement in meth distribution, according to Galax Police Chief Rick Clark.

  • Multi-vehicle crash results in fatality

    Carroll County first responders were called to Fancy Gap Mountain on Tuesday afternoon after a multi-vehicle accident resulted in one fatality.
    Virginia 
State Police confirmed that James Cody Lineberry, 22, of Hillsville, was killed in the accident, which involved a total of three vehicles.


  • Chase in two states end with crash

    A 29-year-old Galax woman faces several charges following a low-speed pursuit Saturday night that started in Galax, continued into Grayson County and Alleghany County, N.C., and ended back in Galax.
    Capt. James Cox of the Galax Police Department said Officer Trevor Jefferson spotted a Ford Mustang parked behind Hillcrest Baptist Church on Virginia 89/South Main Street around 10:15 p.m. on Oct. 12. When he pulled up behind the vehicle, the driver, identified as Amber Blevins, pulled off and headed south on 89.
