 HILLSVILLE — Carroll County Public Schools have received a total of 22 applications in its superintendent search, 15 from Virginia, according to a news release.

The school board recently began a superintendent search after Greg Smith decided to resign his position to take over the leadership of Richmond County schools. He will depart at the end of June.

HILLSVILLE — Officials have been able to negotiate with the contractor for Carroll County High School to get a cafeteria expansion without putting the project out to bid.
Clerk of the Works Dennis Cole, who oversees the Phase III construction work at the high and intermediate school for Carroll, reported that negotiations with New Atlantic reduced the price for the cafeteria work by about $41,000.

Galax City Public Schools will begin a $356,200 construction project on Tuesday, making upgrades to the high school football field.
As part of the school system’s 5-year capital project plan, the Galax School Board approved a bid of $296,200 from DCI/Shires Inc. and a $60,000 bid from DCI/Shires of Bluefield, W. Va., for upgrades to the athletic field and track at GHS.
