Grayson creates bus fund

INDEPENDENCE — If school bus purchases aren’t a top priority for Grayson County Public Schools, they may soon become one after the board of supervisors voted May 11 to invest up to $75,000 a year towards the purchases of school buses.
Supervisor Joe Vaughan — a county bus driver, who is serving his final six months on the board — asked his fellow board members to consider earmarking a portion of the revenue the county collects from its county decal fee to purchase school buses.

INDEPENDENCE — Grayson County will invest a portion of all future dividends it receives from a commerce park in education.
Supervisors, looking for new ways to help fund the county’s school system, approved a resolution earlier this month that will provide additional money to the school system above the county’s mandated financial requirements.

Carroll approves school budget

HILLSVILLE — Carroll County supervisors, after some slight clarification about school financial categories, have approved a total education budget of $37.93 million budget.
Supervisor David Hutchins had the school officials move the $1.6 million shown in the budget’s “other educational programs” to the instruction category, as the county supervisors now approve the school budget categorically.
“I don’t think that’s a category in the code [of Virginia],” he said. “Where does that need to go?”
