HILLSVILLE — Final revisions to the phase III construction plan for Carroll high and intermediate schools are complete and the projects are being rebid. At its Aug. 9 meeting, the Carroll School Board heard from Pinnacle Architect’s Randy Baker that the bid specifications would soon be ready to advertise.
The goal of the construction project is to close the aging Woodlawn school. To do that, educators have to move those students to the intermediate school and the ninth grade to the high school to make room.

HILLSVILLE  — The Blue Ridge Crossroads Governor’s Academy for Technical Education will be more than just a place of learning, after Twin County educators launch the program, the Carroll School Board heard at its Aug. 9 meeting.
The STEM academy, spread out among local high schools and the Crossroads Institute, will provide enhanced career specialization and higher education opportunities, said Mark Burnette, who spearheaded getting Virginia Department of Education approval for the effort.

HILLSVILLE — The opening of Carroll schools went sour for students who suffered a scheduling glitch, one parent told the Carroll School Board at their regular August meeting last week.
The scheduling problem brought Donnie Morgan, an education supporter, before the school board a day after the schools’ open houses and one day before the official start of the school year.
