  • Brady's killer seeks medical clemency

    RICHMOND — A woman serving a 33-year prison sentence for the 2004 murder of Carroll Countian Donald Brady has asked the Virginia Parole Board for medical clemency.
    Elva Rosemary Nixon, 56, had been found guilty in Carroll County Circuit Court in the Jan. 5, 2004, robbery and shooting that led to Brady's death in the Keno section of the county.

  • Woodlawn man wanted by federal officials

    ROANOKE — Federal officials have an interest in the activities of a Woodlawn man whom Hillsville police recently charged with several misdemeanors and one felony after a July 22 traffic stop on U.S. 58.
    Ronald Lee Davis, 49, of Woodlawn was due in Carroll County General District Court on a bond hearing related to charges arising from the incident in which he fled from town Investigator Alan Gravley. He was pulled over in a 1999 Misubishi Mirage for improper registration.

  • Anders, 20 others, indicted by grand jury

    INDEPENDENCE — A Grayson County grand jury issued indictments for 21 people last Friday on charges ranging from larceny theft of a banjo to possession of methamphetamine and other drugs.
    Some of the most notable charges were for Randy Lee Anders, who allegedly made threats to law enforcement and was shot multiple times by Grayson County deputies in an incident that occurred April 29.

  • Grand jury will hear Anders' case

    INDEPENDENCE — A Grayson County man who was shot during an altercation with officers from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department appeared in Grayson County General District Court on Monday for a preliminary hearing.
    Randy Lee Anders, 32, was charged with two felony counts of assault on a police officer, two counts of obstruction of justice and two counts of brandishing a firearm.
    Judge Randal Duncan bound Anders over for action by a grand jury on the two felony counts of assault on a police officer.
