  • Woolwine to serve 23 years in son's death

    HILLSVILLE – A Christiansburg man has been sentenced in Carroll County Circuit Court for charges stemming from an Oct. 31, 2014 accident that resulted in his son’s death.

    Christopher Dean Woolwine, 30, pleaded guilty in May to felony hit-and-run and second-degree murder in the traffic death of his four-year-old son, Cole Woolwine. Judge Brett Geisler sentenced Woolwine on Oct. 20.

  • Grand jury charges 3 with LSD possession

    INDEPENDENCE – Sealed indictments have been opened against three Mouth of Wilson residents, charging them with drug violations.

    The Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury met Oct. 23 and indicted several people. Some of the indictments were sealed until the suspects could be served with warrants.

    Benjamin Ted Roten, 46; Benjamin Wayne Roten, 23; and Lori Jo Roten, 44, were indicted on one charge each for the possession of a Schedule I controlled substance (LSD).

  • Charge alleges athletic fund money taken

    INDEPENDENCE – A former secretary/bookkeeper at Grayson County High School has been indicted on embezzlement and forgery charges by a Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury, as part of an ongoing investigation by Virginia State Police.

    The charges were related to money from athletic funds and other funds maintained by the school system.

  • Grayson grand jury issues indictments

    INDEPENDENCE — A Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury returned a variety of indictments against 16 people on Oct. 23.

    James Edward Lawrence, 33, of Galax, was indicted for obtaining money by fraud. He was charged earlier this year for allegedly collecting bounty money on coyotes killed outside Grayson County.
