  • Davis faces 8 more charges in murder case

    INDEPENDENCE – Eight more indictments have been unsealed against Greyling Dwayne “Beany” Davis, charged in the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend, Karen Cates, and wounding David Patton last year.

    The charges were sealed by a Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury that met Jan. 27, until Davis could be served with warrants.

  • Judge postpones Eisenhauer murder trial

    CHRISTIANSBURG — A trial for David Eisenhauer, 19, a former Virginia Tech student charged with first-degree murder, has been postponed, according to lmedia reports.

    Eisenhauer also is charged with abduction and hiding a body in the death of 13-year-old Blacksburg resident Nicole Lovell, whose body was found near Galax in January 2016.

    SMYTH COUNTY ― A Smyth County judge heard evidence in January against a Wythe County man, charged in the August 2016 hit-and-run slaying of his ex-girlfriend and the malicious wounding of her companion.

    The hit-and-run incident left 35-year-old Heather Michelle Clontz dead and 28-year-old Samuel David Lawson injured.

  • Murder suspect among grand jury indictments

    INDEPENDENCE – A Galax man was indicted on four charges by a Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury last Friday, stemming from a fatal shooting that occurred last March.

    Greyling Dwayne “Beany” Davis was indicted on charges of murder, malicious shooting, possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a violent crime and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (subsequent offense).

  • Judge asked to seal Nofsinger report

    ABINGDON — The attorney for double homicide suspect Richard Denny Nofsinger Jr. has filed to have his client’s federal pre-sentencing report sealed, as it could affect the outcome of his pending state trial.

    Nofsinger, 36, of Galax, pleaded guilty in August 2016 to three of eight federal charges of producing child pornography, in a case that resulted from the investigation of his alleged role in the deaths of a mother and daughter in the city last year.

  • Andrews indicted for tax fraud, perjury

    Federal indictments unsealed last week show 19 counts against Carroll County businessman Jones Keith Andrews, owner of Andrews Farming Inc. and ANDCO Logistics, for more than $1.2 million in alleged tax fraud against the U.S. government.

    The amount refers to cash wages not reported to the government for about six years, according to the indictment on file with the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Abingdon.

  • Man pleads guilty to child solicitation

    Staff Report

    INDEPENDENCE — The Grayson County Circuit Court was prepared to hear the case against James Norwood Crowder, 42, of Christiansburg, on Jan. 12, when the defendant waived his right to trial and pleaded guilty to proposing sex with a child.
