  • Trial date set for Connell

    INDEPENDENCE — Terra Lynn Connell, charged in the 2016 dog attack death of a 15-month-old girl, has been scheduled for a two-day jury trial in Grayson County Circuit Court on Oct. 5 and 6.

    Connell, 30, was indicted by a grand jury in October on four charges, including possession of ammunition for a firearm after having been convicted of a felony; murder in the second-degree; failure to contain a vicious dog resulting in serious human injury; and abuse or child neglect.

  • Burglary suspects face new charges

    INDEPENDENCE – A Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury returned 10 indictments against a Galax man and a Rich Creek woman in connection with the alleged breaking and entering of a home in the Baywood community on April 19.

    The grand jury met April 28 and issued 117 indictments against 64 suspects. Several of the indictments were sealed until arrests were made.

    Circuit Court

    These sentences were recorded in December of 2016 in the office of Gerald Goad, clerk of the Carroll County Circuit Court, Hillsville. Sentences may be appealed:

  • Trial date set for Grayson homicide

    INDEPENDENCE – A trial date has been set for Greyling Dwayne “Beany” Davis, who is charged in the 2016 shooting death of his ex-girlfriend.

    According to the Grayson County Circuit Court database, Davis is scheduled for a three-day jury trial, beginning Aug. 23.

    Davis was indicted on four charges by a Grayson grand jury in January: kill and murder, malicious shooting, possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a violent crime and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (subsequent offense).

  • Underwood to serve 7 years in dog attack case

    INDEPENDENCE – The Grayson County Courthouse was filled with tears last Thursday during the sentencing of John Terry Underwood II, 52, of Independence, who was charged in connection with the dog mauling death of a 15-month-old girl on the night of Jan. 6, 2016.

  • Judge declares mistrial in factory sabotage case

    HILLSVILLE — The trial of Corey Dean Hodges, charged with the 2016 vandalization of the Vaughan-Bassett Furniture factory in downtown Galax, has been moved to August, following a mistrial last Wednesday.

    Carroll County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Philip Steele said that a juror “had problems that made him unable to sit on that panel.”

  • Ogle's fire ruled arson, suspect indicted

    INDEPENDENCE — A Wythe County man has been arrested and charged in connection with an apartment fire above the former Frogs Ogle’s Deli in Independence.

    According to Independence Police Chief James Wagoner, David Christopher Rose, 29, was indicted by a Grayson County Grand Jury on April 28. Indictments were sealed until his arrest.
