  • Woman to serve 4 months for indecent liberties

    HILLSVILLE — A Hillsville woman will serve four months in prison for taking indecent liberties with a 15-year-old child while serving as the child’s custodian.

    Tammy Renee Stuckert, 37, of Hillsville, was originally charged with rape and attempted sodomy after the incident in question took place at her residence at Laurel Ridge Apartments on June 21.

    Stuckert turned herself in to the police three days later, and admitted that she’d had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old male that she was babysitting at her apartment.

  • Woman charged with smuggling drugs into prison

    INDEPENDENCE — A Dumfries woman was indicted by a Grayson County grand jury meeting in Independence last Friday on four charges, two of them that alleged that she distributed drugs to a prisoner at River North Correctional Center in Independence.

  • Isom enters guilty plea to amended charge

    HILLSVILLE — As part of a plea agreement, Whitney Isom pleaded guilty to an amended charge of involuntary manslaughter in Carroll County Circuit Court last Thursday, in the 2013 shooting death of Kevin Heath Frazier.

    Isom was charged by a direct indictment with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony in December 2013.

    According to the court website, Isom was scheduled for a jury trial in December.

  • Defendants plead guilty in federal drug cases

    ROANOKE — The U.S. District Court’s Western District Division in Roanoke heard two local cases in recent weeks, involving the distribution of methamphetamine.

    Nancy Ellen Snyder, 49, of Austinville, pleaded guilty on Sept. 15 to one count of conspiracy with the intent to distribute and one county of distributing more than 500 grams of methamphetamine.

    In addition, Luis Bradly Garza, 33, of Hillsville, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy with the intent to distribute and one count of distributing a detectable amount of methamphetamine on Oct. 1.

  • Parking lot shooting case continued

    The case of Austin Kenneth Rupert Wagg was granted a continuance by Galax Circuit Court Judge J.D. Bolt on Monday, the initial date of his hearing.

    Wagg was arrested by Galax police on Aug. 20 for allegedly firing a weapon at another vehicle in the Galax Food City parking lot near Pizza Hut. He was charged with discharging a firearm in the city, destruction of property, carrying a concealed weapon, attempted first degree murder (two counts), use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (two counts) and discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

  • Reeves' murder trial date moved

    INDEPENDENCE — For the third time, Chad Allen Reeves of Galax has a new trial date in Grayson County Circuit Court.

    Reeves, 31, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Brandon Billings 12 years ago.

    Reeves, who is being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin without bond, was first scheduled for trial on June 23-27. After waiving his right to a speedy trial, a new date of Dec. 15-20 was set by Grayson County Circuit Court Judge Brett Geisler.
