  • Man to serve 6 years for child porn

     ROANOKE — A Dugspur  man who tried to order child pornography from an undercover agent from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, was sentenced last week in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia.

    Ronald Alexander Dawson, 28, previously pleaded guilty to one count of receiving child pornography that had been shipped or mailed in interstate or foreign commerce. 

  • Hall pleads guilty to second-degree murder

     HILLSVILLE — A Cana man has entered a guilty plea to killing a man who was supposed to be his friend.

    Originally charged with first-degree murder, Chad James Hall pleaded guilty in Carroll Circuit Court to second-degree murder in the death of Justin Wade Edwards, 21, of Cana, in March 2009 at Stewart's Creek.

    Carroll Sheriff's deputies first started searching for Edwards after their office received a missing persons report.

  • Father, son indicted for drug conspiracy

     ABINGDON — A father and son from Grayson County and two other suspects have been indicted by a Federal grand jury in U.S. District Court in Abingdon on drug, weapons and other charges.

    Lorne Sidney Anders; his son, Arlin James Anders; Michael Leon Cooper and Ricardo “Ricky” Lopez-Zuniga were indicted when the grand jury met on Nov. 2.

    Eleven different counts were returned by the grand jury.

  • Grand jury issues more indictments

     INDEPENDENCE — Additional Grayson County grand jury indictments have been unsealed and suspects arrested.

    An indictment is a formal charge, not a finding of guilt.

    The grand jury met Oct. 22 and returned the following indictments.

    • Thomas Ray Archer of Galax — abuse or child neglect.

    • Cynthia Ann Hyder of Independence — attempted grand larceny of a firearm.

    • Cody William Rutherford of Fries — possession of a schedule II controlled substance (meth).

  • Grayson pleads guilty to dealing meth

     ROANOKE — A 36-year-old Carroll County man snared in a drug trafficking conspiracy has pleaded guilty in federal court, but he reserves the right to argue down the amount of methamphetamine involved.

    Jesse William Grayson got caught up in the same investigation that led to the conviction of Donald Scott Vaughan, who fled from a drug sting at Interstate 77's Exit 14 at high speeds across western Carroll County.

  • Murder case sent to grand jury

     HILLSVILLE — People gathered at a Pipers Gap home on May 18 saw horseplay between David Levelle Richardson of Galax and Bryon Jordan Wilson escalate into something more violent.

    No witness saw the shooting that killed Wilson, because it happened in the bathroom of the home on Coal Creek Road. But a witnesses testifying at the preliminary hearing in Carroll County General District Court Friday agreed that, after a fight, Wilson picked up an object and followed Richardson into the bathroom.
