  • Fries woman pleads guilty to federal drug charge

    Staff Report

    ROANOKE – A Fries woman, who reportedly conspired with others to distribute methamphetamine in and around the Hillsville and Galax areas, pleaded guilty last week in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Roanoke.

    A news release from U.S. Attorney John P. Fishwick Jr.’s office confirmed that Bianca Victoria Aroche, 23, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess 50 grams or more of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, and to distributing drugs.

  • Huff indicted for involuntary manslaughter

    HILLSVILLE – Amanda Pearle Huff, 27, of Hillsville, was indicted by a Carroll County Circuit Court grand jury Monday on a charge of involuntary manslaughter that resulted in the death of a Max Meadows woman.

    The charge against Huff stems from a two-vehicle head-on crash that occurred at 4314 Danville Pike on March 26

  • Man pleads guilty to distributing veterinary medicine

    Staff Report

    ABINGDON – The former store manager of the Carroll County Cooperative pleaded guilty Friday in federal court to conspiring to defraud the U.S. Food and Drug Administration [FDA].

    Marlin Webb, 58, of Woodlawn, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Abingdon on Dec. 9, where he waived his right to be indicted and pleaded guilty to one charge of conspiracy.

  • Suspect not guilty by reason of insanity

    HILLSVILLE — A Michigan man facing multiple felonies in Carroll County was found not guilty by reason of insanity following a court appearance on Nov. 29.

    Jason Andrew Broderick, 34, of Adrian, Mich., was involved in a high-speed chase in Carroll County on April 10. Following the incident, Broderick was charged with five felonies including malicious assault on a law enforcement officer, two counts of assault of a law enforcement officer, destruction of property with intent and eluding police.

  • Lewis heads to court for homicide, assault

    MARION — Two charges in the fatal hit-and-run death of a Fries woman and the vehicular injury of an Ivanhoe man have been continued by the Smyth County General District Court.

    John Randolph Lewis, 34, of Wytheville is charged in the first-degree murder of Heather Copeland Clontz, 35, and the malicious assault of Samuel D. Lawson. According to the court’s online database, Lewis will appear in court Dec. 8 for the assault charge and one charge of failure to stop for an accident.

  • Dog mauling death trial set for March

    INDEPENDENCE — John Terry Underwood, charged in the dog attack death of a 15-month-old girl, is set to appear in Grayson County Circuit Court for a motion on his second-degree murder case in February.

    Underwood was scheduled to appear for a case review on Nov. 10, where a jury trial date was set for March 2, 2017. According to the circuit court database, the court now will hear and consider a motion regarding the case on Feb. 23, 2017.

    Terra Lynn Connell, who was also charged in the incident, is scheduled to have a trial date set on Jan. 27, 2017.
