  • Former clinic director to serve 30 days for embezzling

    HILLSVILLE — In a sentence handed down in the Carroll County Circuit Court last week, the punishment very specifically fits the crime.

    Former Free Clinic of the Twin Counties director Latonia Marshall was given 30 days incarceration for four counts of felony embezzlement from the not-for-profit clinic, which had to close for that same length of time while its board of directors scrambled to recoup the loss and reopen it.

  • Four charged with felonies in Galax

    Staff Report

    A number of felony arrests were made by the Galax Police Department last week, according to a report released by Chief Rick Clark, including:

    • Virginia Lee Pierce, 50, of Galax, was arrested on Dec. 14 by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, on a Galax warrant for a felony charge of possession of Schedule I or II drugs and misdemeanor possession of controlled substance paraphernalia.

  • Carroll grand jury issues indictments

    The grand jury met Monday in Carroll County Circuit Court and issued several indictments, including several drug charges, shoplifting, child abuse, indecent exposure and one case of stealing cattle.

    An indictment is a formal charge, not a finding of guilt.

    Charges included:

    • William Grady Adkins, 20, of Ararat, eluding a law enforcement officer

    • Tiburcio Aguilar, 35, of Dublin, grand larceny of an automobile
