  • Woman charged with depositing counterfeit checks

    ABINGDON — A 37-year-old Hillsville woman was indicted last week by a federal grand jury in U.S. District Court on charges that she repeatedly deposited counterfeit checks at local banks.
    The grand jury has charged Regina Hines Hill with three counts of possessing or uttering a counterfeit security. If convicted, she faces a maximum possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $250,000 on each of the three counts.

  • Carroll grand jury issues 84 indictments

    HILLSVILLE — A Carroll County grand jury issued 84 indictments and sealed six after meeting for its spring session Monday.
    An indictment is a formal charge, not a finding of guilt.
    Those named in the indictments include:
    • Riley Dale Alley, shoplifting
    • Chase Kiran Altice, two counts each of grand larceny and statutory burglary for incidents at the home of William B. Webb and Keith and Beulah Bryant
    • Juan Benitez, two counts of possession of a schedule II drug, Oxycontin, with intent to distribute Xanax
