    District Court

    Pamela Lynn McManamy of Galax, guilty of public swearing/intoxication; pay $25 fine and $81 costs.

  • Religious discrimination case rescheduled

    INDEPENDENCE — The Oracle Institute's religious discrimination case against Grayson County has been rescheduled to Sept. 1 and 2.
    The trial originally was set for May 5 and 6.
    Grayson County Administrator Jonathon Sweet said the trial was delayed due to the death of Supervisor Mike Maynard's father just days before the trial was to begin.

    Land Transfers

    These land transfers were recorded Nov. 23-Dec. 17 in the office of Carolyn H. Honeycutt, clerk of the Carroll County Circuit Court, Hillsville:

  • Former Galax officer pleads guilty to DUI

    Former Galax police officer Earl Johnson, 51, who worked at the department for 25 years, pleaded guilty Monday to driving under the influence.
    He was fined $250 and his license is suspended for 12 months. He was also sentenced to 30 days in jail, which was suspended.
    Johnson was arrested in February by Officer Terry Woods of the Galax Police Department, who originally stopped the vehicle Johnson was operating for reckless driving on East Grayson Street.
    He was charged for DUI and refusal of a blood or breath test.

  • Grayson grand jury issues indictments

    INDEPENDENCE — Jason Michael Lambert, 27, of Galax, was indicted on seven charges last Friday by a Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury, meeting at the Grayson County Courthouse.
    An indictment indicates that a grand jury found sufficient evidence for a case to go to trial, and does not indicate guilt. All of those indicted are innocent until proven guilty.
