    Land Transfers

    These land transfers were recorded Nov. 23-Dec. 17 in the office of Carolyn H. Honeycutt, clerk of the Carroll County Circuit Court, Hillsville:

  • Former Galax officer pleads guilty to DUI

    Former Galax police officer Earl Johnson, 51, who worked at the department for 25 years, pleaded guilty Monday to driving under the influence.
    He was fined $250 and his license is suspended for 12 months. He was also sentenced to 30 days in jail, which was suspended.
    Johnson was arrested in February by Officer Terry Woods of the Galax Police Department, who originally stopped the vehicle Johnson was operating for reckless driving on East Grayson Street.
    He was charged for DUI and refusal of a blood or breath test.

  • Grayson grand jury issues indictments

    INDEPENDENCE — Jason Michael Lambert, 27, of Galax, was indicted on seven charges last Friday by a Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury, meeting at the Grayson County Courthouse.
    An indictment indicates that a grand jury found sufficient evidence for a case to go to trial, and does not indicate guilt. All of those indicted are innocent until proven guilty.

  • Two former DSS workers sentenced

    ABINGDON — A former senior social worker for the Grayson County Department of Social Services who oversaw Adult Protective Services was sentenced Monday on federal fraud charges arising from the theft of money from two elderly clients.

    A former companion care provider hired to work with her was also sentenced on charges stemming from misuse of a debit card and theft from a bank account belonging to a patient the defendant was hired to care for.

  • Bond pleads guilty to meth charges

    ROANOKE — A Twin County man facing illegal drug charges in federal court has entered a guilty plea to one count of distribution of methamphetamine.
    A federal grand jury indicted Elijah Lee Bond, 24, in February on one count of conspiracy to distribute meth and four counts of distribution in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia.
