District Court

These sentences were recorded in November of 2009 in the Galax General District Court office, Galax. Sentences may be appealed:
Steven Earl Mason of Pinnacle, N.C., guilty of public swearing/intoxication; pay $250 fine and $71 costs.

INDEPENDENCE — Three indictments that were sealed by a Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury on July 23 have been unsealed.
An indictment indicates that a grand jury found evidence for a case to go to trial, and does not indicate guilt.
Stanley D. Brewer, 46, of Fries, was indicted on five charges:
• conspiracy to sell, give or distribute a schedule III controlled substance (hydrocodone)
• sale, give or distribution of a schedule III controlled substance (hydrocodone)

ROANOKE — The last of several Twin County residents implicated in an illegal drug case pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on Tuesday.
With Kenneth Joe Kennedy signing a plea agreement in federal court, prosecutors have netted convictions against three Galax residents and two Hillsville men in 2010.

Former Carroll County Circuit Court clerk Mason Brooks Montgomery, Sr., died Friday at his home. He was 80.
He served 24 years as clerk of court, after previously serving as deputy commissioner for eight years.
He was a past member of the Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Galax Moose Lodge.
Montgomery was born in Carroll County to the late William Henry Harrison Montgomery and Valeria Stilwell Montgomery.
