    District Court

    These sentences were recorded in February in the Galax General District Court Office, Galax. Sentences may be appealed:

  • Former prosecutor named judge

    Former Grayson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Dawn Cox was chosen as a juvenile and domestic relations court judge on Tuesday by the General Assembly.
    She fills the position that has been vacant since the 2008 resignation of Judge Michael Keith Blankenship of Wytheville.

  • Grayson court unseals more indictments

    INDEPENDENCE — Several more indictments have been unsealed by Grayson County Circuit Court, revealing the names of suspects indicted by a grand jury on April 28.
    An indictment indicates that the grand jury found sufficient evidence for a case to go to trial, and does not indicate guilt.
    All of those indicted are innocent until proven guilty.
    The most recent charges unsealed include:
    • David Lee Anthony, Galax – possession of a schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine).

    Land Transfers

  • Teacher on leave after indictment

    INDEPENDENCE — A Grayson County High School teacher is among four people named in indictments unsealed recently, after formal charges were placed April 27 by a Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury.
    Mark Allen Osborne, 33, of Independence, was indicted on a charge of using a communications system to solicit a child for illegal acts.
    According to the indictment, the charge involved a minor child at least 15 years old and less than 18 years old.
    Osborne is an agriculture teacher at GCHS. He is free after posting a $10,000 bond.

  • Grayson grand jury indicts 21

    INDEPENDENCE — A Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury indicted 21 people on a variety of charges last Friday.
    Christopher Douglas Cecil was indicted on one count of malicious wounding. He is accused of wounding John Terry Kelly. He was also indicted on a statutory burglary charge for allegedly entering Kelly’s home.
    Other indictments included:
    • Sherry Ponce – grand larceny.
    • Roger Lynn Boyer II – grand larceny.
    • Richard Dusty Hash – credit cart theft.
