  • Grayson grand jury indicts 21

    INDEPENDENCE — A Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury indicted 21 people on a variety of charges last Friday.
    Christopher Douglas Cecil was indicted on one count of malicious wounding. He is accused of wounding John Terry Kelly. He was also indicted on a statutory burglary charge for allegedly entering Kelly’s home.
    Other indictments included:
    • Sherry Ponce – grand larceny.
    • Roger Lynn Boyer II – grand larceny.
    • Richard Dusty Hash – credit cart theft.

    District Court

    Michael S. Campbell of Galax, guilty of public swearing/intoxication; pay $25 fine and $116 costs.

  • Galax schools sue contractors over leaky windows

    After attempting to come to a resolution through mediation, Galax City Public Schools has decided to move forward in a lawsuit against Vannoy Construction and architecture and engineering firm OWPR Inc. due to problems with leaking windows that were installed at Galax High School by subcontractor Bell Windows.
    Earlier this year, the Galax school system filed suit against the companies, but hoped to avoid going to court.
