  • CVS robbery suspect pleads guilty

    HILLSVILLE — One day after being indicted by a Carroll County grand jury in the June 24 robbery of CVS in Galax, a 32-year-old New Millport, Penn., man has pleaded guilty in the case.
    Galax police sought Brian Richard Sloppy after a suspect entered the drug store on East Stuart Drive and gave a pharmacy technician a note that demanded schedule II prescription narcotics.

  • Rape charge among Carroll's 126 indictments

    HILLSVILLE — The Carroll County grand jury certified a charge of rape against a Galax tanning salon owner Monday.
    Jimmy Ray Linville’s indictment came among a total of 126 indictments, 20 of which were sealed by the court until those named could be served with warrants.
    Linville, 51, owner of Tropical Tanning Salon in downtown Galax, was charged with rape for allegedly having intercourse with a female child of less than 13 years old, according to the indictment.

  • Hiding fugitive son leads to parents' conviction

    ABINGDON  — After trying to hide their son from the authorities, a Woodlawn couple was found guilty on two charges in federal court last Friday, according to court officials.
    Ricky David Robinson, 54, and Cynthia Lee Robinson, 50, faced a two-day jury trail on one count each of harboring a federal fugitive and of conspiracy to harbor a federal fugitive, according to a news release from the federal prosecutor’s office.

  • Nuckolls indicted on child porn charges

    INDEPENDENCE — Andrew Mark Nuckolls, 25, of Independence, has been indicted for the possession of child pornography by a Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury.
    The sealed indictment was handed down when the grand jury met July 27.
    Nuckolls has been charged with one count of possession of child pornography, which is a class 6 felony, and one count of possession of child pornography, second offense, which is a class 5 felony.

  • Carroll criminal cases result in convictions

    HILLSVILLE — Carroll Commonwealth’s Attorney Nathan Lyons recently released these updates on cases his office has prosecuted, which have resulted in convictions:

    • In Carroll County Circuit Court on Aug. 13, Douglas Austin Jennings, 29, of Galax pleaded guilty to one count each of robbery, aggravated malicious wounding, statutory burglary and malicious wounding in the commission of a robbery.
