  • Murder suspect free on $100,000 bond

    HILLSVILLE — A 28-year-old Pipers Gap woman accused of second-degree murder from an October 2013 incident received a bond from the Carroll County Circuit Court last Thursday.
    Before a crowd in the courtroom, Whitney Lee Isom was granted a $100,000 secured bond, according to court officials.
    Isom had been charged by direct indictment with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in December 2013 after the shooting death of Kevin Heath Frazier at 70 Rippey Hollow Road in Pipers Gap.

  • Hodge to serve 5 years for fatal crash

    PULASKI — A Pulaski Circuit Court judge told a 25-year-old Max Meadows man that he was a “bad driver, a speeding driver,” when pronouncing his sentence Thursday.
    Dustin Keith Hodge was the driver in a Sept. 15, 2012, wreck that killed a Hillsville woman. He had pleaded no contest in August to an involuntary manslaughter charge after the crash on Virginia 100 in Pulaski County that killed Misty Dawn Davis.

  • Trial date set in Owens murder case

    HILLSVILLE ― With all the forensic evidence having been processed by the state crime lab in Roanoke, Carroll County Circuit Court officials have set the first-degree murder trial of a 31-year-old Woodlawn man for June 2014.

  • Court releases drug case search warrants

    HILLSVILLE — Twin County Drug Task Force members searched two residences and a business in Galax on Sept. 15 after several undercover buys of illegal drugs, according to three search warrants sought in the case.
    The search warrants were sealed by Carroll County Circuit Court until Dec. 18, two days after the most recent meeting of the Carroll grand jury.

  • Woman could face federal fraud charges

    A Galax woman was arrested Dec. 11 on a direct indictment alleging that she obtained money by false pretenses from a disabled person.
    Tamara Parnell, 35, of Galax was arrested by Galax Detective Robbie Isom and a special agent of the U.S. Secret Service, according to Police Chief Rick Clark.
    An investigation was conducted following a complaint received by the Galax Department of Social Services, alleging that Parnell had diverted funds from an account of a female she was paid to keep in her home, Clark said.

  • Woman charged with murder in Frazier shooting

    HILLSVILLE — Indictments unsealed by the Carroll Circuit Court on Monday confirm that two charges have been filed against a 28-year-old Pipers Gap woman in the October shooting death of Kevin Heath Frazier.
