    INDEPENDENCE – Sealed indictments returned by a Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury on July 22 against four suspects have been opened.

    Randy Scott Martin, 48, of Galax, was indicted on five charges.

  • Defense could question Nofsinger's mental status

    ABINGDON — The defense in Richard Denny Nofsinger Jr.’s federal child pornography case is considering seeking an evaluation for mental competence to stand trial, according to a motion filed in U.S. District Court in Abingdon.

    Nofsinger faces state charges of the capital murder of Anastasia Alley, 21 months old, and the first-degree murder of her mother, Alyssa Kenny, 28, on March 10 in Galax. They were found dead in their home.

  • Nofsinger trial moved at defense's request

    ABINGDON — The federal trial and and a pretrial conference for Richard Denny Nofsinger Jr. were granted a continuance in federal court on Thursday morning.

    Nofsinger is charged with eight federal counts of producing child pornography and is also facing state charges of the capital murder of Anastasia Alley, 21 months, and the first degree murder of her mother, Alyssa Kenny, 28. State proceedings will continue after the federal case is complete.

  • Hearing delayed in Davis murder case

    Staff Report

    INDEPENDENCE — A preliminary hearing has again been delayed for Greyling Dwayne “Beany” Davis of Galax, who is charged with the first-degree murder of Karen Cates at her Grayson County home.

    The hearing was continued Monday morning in Grayson County General District Court.

    An arraignment hearing was held on May 2 for Davis, where Jonathon Venzie of Independence was appointed as his defense attorney, according to the court.

  • Eisenhauer won't face capital murder charge

    Staff Reports

    CHRISTIANSBURG — A former Virginia Tech student will not face a capital murder charge in the killing of 13-year-old Nicole Lovell, whose body was found just outside Grayson County last year.

    Mary Pettitt, commonwealth’s attorney for Montgomery County, said Tuesday that investigators had not been able to prove that David Eisenhauer, 19, had sexual contact with Lovell.

  • Court unseals indictments in Carroll

    HILLSVILLE – The Carroll County Circuit Court has unsealed additional indictments from the June 20 meeting of the grand jury.

    All the indictments were for drug-related charges:

    • Danielle Lee Martin, of Hillsville, has been charged with possession of a Schedule II drug (methamphetamine)

    • Nicole Leann Alderman, of Cana, has been charged with possession of a Schedule II drug (methamphetamine)
