  • Carroll burglary suspect to plead

    INDEPENDENCE — A Galax man is scheduled for a plea and sentencing hearing in Grayson County Circuit Court this month, on multiple charges related to a burglary in Independence earlier this year.

    According to Circuit Court records, Wyndom Taylor Thornton will submit a plea to charges of entering a structure to commit larceny, assault and battery or other felony; grand larceny (greater than or equal to a $200 value); larceny with intent to distribute (more than a $200 value); and two charges of distribution of a Schedule II drug (second offense).

  • Police chase suspect to be sentenced

    HILLSVILLE — An Austinville man who was involved in a police chase that resulted in a school lockdown earlier this year will be sentenced Dec. 11 in Carroll County Circuit Court.

    Eric Donald Edwards, 30, pleaded guilty on Oct. 17 to a felony charge of eluding a law enforcement officer, according to court records. He was indicted on that and other charges by a grand jury in June.

  • Trial in deputy’s death set for April

    HILLSVILLE — A two-day jury trial has been set for a man charged in connection with the death of a Carroll County deputy earlier this year.

    Joseph Alan Lambert, 21, of Goodview, was being pursued by Carroll authorities in March when Deputy Curtis Bartlett answered fellow deputies’ calls for help. He was on his way to join the pursuit when his patrol vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer at the I-77/U.S 58 intersection. He died at the scene.

  • Beasley will enter plea on attempted murder charge

    HILLSVILLE – A Wythe County man charged with attempted capital murder of a Carroll County law enforcement officer and other crimes has a plea hearing set for February.

    Kevin Nelson Beasley, 27, of Austinville, was indicted by a Carroll grand jury in March, on multiple charges related to a September 2016 police chase and a three-day manhunt that spanned two counties.

  • Fatal stabbing charge sent to grand jury

    HILLSVILLE — The first-degree murder case against a Roanoke woman will be heard by a Carroll County Circuit Court grand jury on Dec. 11.

    Yashisca Dushawn Richardson Chapman, 39, is charged with allegedly stabbing to death Roland Eugene Clayton Jr., 51, of Roanoke, on June 22 at the Galax Motel.

    Clayton was found with multiple stab wounds on the floor of the motel’s Room 11 when police responded. Chapman was arrested at the scene.

  • Mental evaluation delays manslaughter trial

    INDEPENDENCE — The court date to set a trial for Tanisha Ann Lineberry, charged in the April 30 death of her young son, has been moved pending the results of a mental health evaluation.

    According to court records, a trial date for Lineberry will be set on Jan. 26, 2018.

    Lineberry was appointed legal counsel at a hearing in Grayson County Circuit Court on Aug. 17. She is charged with involuntary manslaughter and abuse of a child resulting in serious injury. Attorney J. Tompkins will represent Lineberry, according to the circuit court office.

    MARION — A Wythe County man awaits a sentencing hearing in Smyth County Circuit Court following his Alford plea earlier this month, to a second-degree murder charge in the death of his ex-girlfriend.

    John Randolph Lewis, 35, was convicted in the hit-and-run attack that left 35-year-old Heather Michelle Clontz dead and 28-year-old Samuel David Lawson injured.
