 “You're listening to NightRide USA. Here to take you safely through the night,” radio host Bruce Hodges would announce on his radio show, formerly on 98.1 WBRF FM. 

For the past eight years, between 11:06 p.m. and 6 a.m. on weekdays, listeners could call in to Hodges and request a song of inspiration and encouragement or share stories of distress and hope.

The show is non-political, but patriotic. It's not religious, but spiritual. 

Faced with a magnitude of challenges that federal healthcare reform is bringing to independent hospitals, Twin County Regional Hospital is using a national consultant to determine how the hospital can best serve the community — either by remaining independent or aligning with a hospital system.

TCRH board members are concerned that the independent hospital won’t have the resources and assets to keep up with the new legislation’s requirements.

MOUTH OF WILSON — A new business will open in the western end of Grayson County on Saturday.

Highlands Hardware and Building Supply will open in a building formerly used as a garage on U.S. 58 at 3386 Highlands Parkway. A grand opening is set for Saturday with food provided for customers and free prizes from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The new business is owned and operated by James and Melissa Hayes.

Melissa said the store would offer a complete line of hardware items, lumber and much more. Delivery will be available.

Squealers Authentic BBQ Co. opened a new restaurant on Sunday at the former Sonic location on East Stuart Drive in Galax, beside Sears, to serve up favorites like smoked pork barbecue, beef brisket, chicken, ribs, homemade sides, desserts and breads — and everything in between.

The specialty is the barbecue, with every piece slowly cooked for hours in a large smoker to give it the best flavor possible.
