    Clarence W. Bartlett Jr., 81, of Hillsville, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at his home.

    Bartlett was born in Galax, Va., to the late Clarence William Bartlett and Rea Bogus Bartlett.

    Helen Noveline Webb, 80, of Laurel Fork, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at her home.

    She was born in Carroll County on Nov. 7, 1931, to the late Crockett and Mary Tobler.

  • John Richter

    John Richter of West Palm Beach, Fla., died Feb. 8, 2012, at his home.

    Survivors include his wife, Linda Richter; two sons, Michael (Kim) of Salisbury, Md., and John Carlton; two step-sons, David and James Edwards of Galax; one sister, Marie Walla of Hartley Del.; one granddaughter.

    A funeral was held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Howard-Price Funeral Home, 754 US Highway One, North Palm Beach, Fla. 33408. Pastor David Daniels officiated. Burial followed at the Woodlawn Cemetery in West Palm Beach.

    Lona Mae Nell Bryant Linville, 79, of Galax, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at her home.

    She was born in Carroll County on Nov. 7, 1932, to Logan and Lula Kirby Bryant.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Linville.

  • Joseph Dale Hash, 79

    Joseph Dale Hash, 79, of Galax, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at his home.

    He was born on June 24, 1932, in Virginia to Charles Gleason and Christie Halsey Hash.

    Survivors include his wife, Myra Cox Hash of Galax; son, Timothy Dale Hash of Woodlawn; step-daughter, Anja S. Taylor of Cana; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, June Miller of Bluefield, W.Va., and Kathleen Arrington of Vinton; brothers, Kelly G. Hash of Galax and J. Alex Hash of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

  • William B. Fray, 81

    William B. Fray, 81, beloved husband of 50 years of Delores S. Fray, died at home on Jan. 8, 2012.

    He suffered from Parkinson’s disease.

    He was born on Jan. 5, 1931, to Louise Woodville Willis and Jesse Hampson Fray of Orange.

    He was reared in the Orange Presbyterian Church and was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Randolph Macon Academy, Front Royal and was captain of their championship rifle team of 1949-50.

  • Jimmy Ray Boyer, 69

    Jimmy Ray Boyer, 69, of Mount Airy, N.C., passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, in the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.

    Jimmy was born in Radford, Va., on Feb. 25, 1942, to James Woodrow and Reva Jeanette Tolliver Boyer.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara B. Adams; and a brother, Clayton M. Boyer.

  • Peggy D. Wilson, 88

    Mrs. Peggy D. Wilson, 88, passed away on February 6, 2012, at the Carrington Nursing Center in Starkville, Miss. Mrs. Wilson was born in West Virginia and lived most of her life in Galax, Va., and also in Winston-Salem, N.C., and in Starkville, Miss.

    Mrs. Wilson was a high school teacher in Southwest Virginia and in North Carolina for many years. She will be remembered for her keen wit, natural curiosity and for her love of all children, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

  • Magalene M. Rigney, 82

    Magalene M. Rigney, 82, of Fancy Gap, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Rigney was born in Carroll County, Virginia, to the late William & Stella Ayers.

    She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jessie B. Rigney, a daughter, Dorothy K. France, a brother, John J. Ayers.
