  • Kermit R. Smith, 95

     Kermit R. Smith, 95, of Wilmington, Del., died Nov. 2, 2010. 

    Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Edna Farmer Smith; children, Sandy S. Manno (Mark) of Newark, Skip Smith of Newark and Susan E. Raison of Newark.

    A funeral will be held Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. at the McCrery Memorial Chapel, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road where friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park. 

    In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the charity of your choice.

     Edna Gentlee Smith, 76, of Woodlawn, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at Waddell Nursing Home.

    She was born in Welch, W.Va., Sept. 30, 1934, to Charles Columbus and Lillie Mae Burks Isom.

     Danny K. Shupe, 78, of Galax, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at his home.

    He was born Dec. 24, 1931, in Grayson County, to Malcolm Q. and Eva Rector Shupe.

  • Callie Edna Dalton Williams Lowe, 91

     Callie Edna Dalton Williams Lowe, 91, of Hillsville, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at Forsyth Medical Center.  

    She was born in Carroll County to the late Orville W. and Maggie Jane Dalton.  

    In addition to her parents Mrs. Lowe was preceded in death by her husbands, Lee Williams and Curtis Lowe.  

  • Alma Ruth Duncan Boyd, 92

     Alma Ruth Duncan Boyd, 92, of Hickory, N.C., died Nov. 1, 2010, at Lutheran Home Hickory West, Hickory, N.C., after a period of declining health.

    She was born Sept. 1, 1918, in Pulaski County, Va. She was the daughter of the late Kitty Swecker Duncan and Byrd Duncan.  

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Boyd; a daughter, Linda B. Harris; two brothers, Charlie B. Duncan and Roy E. Duncan; and two sisters, Elsie D. Tickle and Helen D. Elkins.

  • Belva Oleta Ayers Sharp, 82

     Belva Oleta Ayers Sharp, 82, of Woodlawn, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Twin County Regional Hospital.

    She was born in Carroll County on Feb. 10, 1928, to Estel and Laura Gillispie Ayers.

    She was the widow of Boyd Sharp.

    Survivors include daughters, Pauline Sharp and Rebecca Daughtery; sons, Douglas Sharp and Williard Sharp; sister, Mary Ayers Williams; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

  • Geraldine Billings Russell Pickrel

     Geraldine Billings Russell Pickrel, beloved Mother and Nana, of 288 Oakwood Circle, Danville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Oct. 29, 2010. 

    She was born in Grayson County, Va. She was a daughter to the late Tyra and Ella Mae Sexton Billings.

    Geraldine had a very gentle and nurturing nature which led her to dedicate her life to taking care of children as owner and operator of Russell’s Family Daycare Home and later Kids’ Korner Daycare, both in Danville.  

  • Betty Jo Hendricks, 80

     Betty Jo Hendricks, 80, of Fries, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Fries.

    She was born in Grayson County on Nov. 22, 1929, to Elbert and Dorothy Virginia Patton Boyd.

    She was the widow of Jackson Ray Hendricks.

  • Leon Welcher Dalton, 56

     Leon Welcher Dalton, 56 of Hillsville, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at Waddell Nursing Home.  

    He was preceded in death by his father, Welcher Vaughn Dalton.  

    Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Lisa Dalton of Hillsville; mother, Helen Thomas Dalton of Hillsville; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Connie Dalton of Marion; sister, Lois Cyr of Hillsville; three grandchildren; two step- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

  • Kenneth Delane Carr, 71

     Kenneth Delane Carr, 71, of Galax, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.

    He was born April 14, 1939, in Grayson County to Donald and Evelyn Schuyler Carr.
