  • Paisley Brooke Snider celebrated her first birthday Feb. 1 with a Princess party at Pleasant Grove Fellowship Hall with family and friends.

    Her parents are Curtis and Lorie Snider. She has two older sisters, Palin and Blair Snider. Her grandparents are Danny and Linda Deskins of Dugspur and Harold and Joyce Snider of Dublin and the late Kathy Snider. Her great-grandparents are Pauline Marshall of Laurel Fork and Freida Deskins of Hillsville. She has an aunt, Holly Choate.

  • Hayleigh Noelle Dolinger turned four on April 3. She celebrated with her family on April 1 at Mount Hope United Methodist Church in Fries.

    She is the daughter of Robbie and Monica Dolinger of Galax. Her big brother is Robbie Jr. Maternal grandparents are Mike and Sue Huffman of Fries. Paternal grandparents are Juanita and the late Ed Dolinger of Independence. Her special great-grandmother is Mildred Ring of Fries.

  • Dr. David Harvey and Stephanie Harvey of Hillsville announce the marriage of their daughter, Sarah Booth Harvey, to Eric Mathew Hanson, son of Paul and Jean Hanson of Midlothian, Texas.

    Harvey is the granddaughter of Dr. Sidney and Shirley Harvey of Elk Creek, and Lathan and Carolyn Umphlett of Virginia Beach.
    The marriage was in Richmond on May 7, 2011, at the Valentine History Museum.
    Harvey, a graduate of Radford University, is pursuing a career as a State Farm Insurance agent.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Randy Osborne of Independence announced the engagement of their daughter, Carlie Marie, to Austin Clay Phipps, son of Lane and Beth Phipps of Mouth of Wilson.
    Osborne and Phipps are 2006 graduates of Grayson County High School. 

    Osborne is a 2010 graduate of Virginia Tech where she earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology.
    Phipps is a 2010 graduate of Radford University where he earned a bachelor of science degree in communication. He is employed with Commonwealth Laminating and Coating in Martinsville.



    Hundreds of children made a mad dash for candy-filled Easter eggs at the Galax Parks & Recreation Department's annual egg hunt on March 31. In addition to sweets, some eggs had paper slips that earned the finder a prize.



  • Joe Don and Pam Dickenson of Baywood announced the engagement of their daughter, Mary Elena Dickenson, to Brandon Dean Tomlinson, son of Herbert Dean and Lora Tomlinson of Fries.

    Tomlinson is a 2004 graduate of Grayson County High School and a 2008 graduate of Virginia Tech. He is employed as assistant manager at Cresthaven Farms in Baywood.
    Dickenson is a 2005 graduate of Grayson County High School and a 2008 graduate of Virginia Tech. She will graduate from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2012.

  • Caelyn Brooke Nuckolls celebrated her third birthday Jan. 14, 2012, with a Rapunzel party.

    She is the daughter of Brandon and Brittney Nuckolls. Her grandparents are Theresa Gunter, Darrin and Julie Gunter, Al and Ruby Payne and David Nuckolls.
