  • HILLSVILLE — Carroll officials hope that a state grant will put the county on the path to creating the George Lafayette Cater Educational Park and Recreational Trail.
    The Carroll Board of Supervisors at their Jan. 13 meeting approved a resolution supporting a grant application for the park and trail.

  • Hospital staff teared up and cheered as their co-workers strutted into the room with their new looks, beaming smiles and improved bodies on Friday during the Twin County Regional Hospital's own version of the “Biggest Loser” makeover.
    “The 'Biggest Loser' competition has made an immeasurable impact on my life,” said David Payne, director of radiology, who lost 28 pounds in the challenge. “It has helped me transform my life into a healthier, happier lifestyle. I feel better than I can ever remember.”

  • With a theme of “Expect a Miracle,” the message to the congregation was to keep on dreaming, as churches in the community united on Jan. 17 at Gospel Temple #2 in Galax to commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

    Galax Vice Mayor Willie Greene told the congregation to use their freedom to be great.
    “Martin Luther King said it doesn't matter what job you get,” he said. “Get a job, and be the best you can be at it... We have the freedom to be great, and anything less is to be a slave again.

  • Hayden Thomas Blevins celebrated his second birthday Dec. 10 with a Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! Party at Macado’s Restaurant with his family. He is the son of Jason and Alison Blevins of Ennice, N.C.

    His grandparents are Jim and Brenda Blevins of Ennice. N.C., and Ray and Nonnie Plummer of Troutdale.

  • Dwight Osborne and Carmen Vaught were united in marriage at Hillcrest Baptist Church on Oct. 10, 2010.
    Family and friends attended.

    Osborne is the son of Junior and Faye Osborne of the Fairview community.
    Vaught is the daughter of Dallas and Shirley Vaught of the Cranberry community.

  • Kylie Noel Crigger turned three on Jan. 10. She is the daughter of Jonathan Crigger and Hannah Lineberry.

    Her grandparents are Ricky and Vicky Lineberry and Lee Crigger and Mitch Crigger.

  • Jeremiah Levi Foster will turn one year old Jan. 12. He is the son of P.J. Foster and Jessica Baldwin of Fries.

    His grandparents are Dewey Baldwin and Sheron Hash of Fries, Tina Foster of Elkton, Md., and Peter Foster Sr. of Dunn, N.C. His great-grandmothers are Eileen Carr of Elkton, Md., and Addie Baldwin of Galax, formerly of Elk Creek. Foster and his family will celebrate with a Winnie the Pooh party at their home.
