    HILLSVILLE — People from all over the region gathered at the Hillsville VFW on Saturday to celebrate the first-ever Christian Family Fun Day.
    The event, sponsored by dozens of churches in the Twin Counties and beyond, kicked off with a parade at 10:30 a.m., followed by free food, games and entertainment from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
    People smiled from their decorated vehicles while others followed on foot and distributed pamphlets for their respective churches along the parade route.

  • Loye and Wylda Halsey of Mouth of Wilson are still having fun after 66 years of marriage.

    Their secret is good food and a sense of humor. The couple will celebrate their 66th anniversary on Sept. 7.

  • Zonnie and Vicky Hill of Fancy Gap and Larry and Debbie Davis of Hillsville announced the marriage of their children, Zackary Wayne Hill and Ashley Morgan Davis.
    The ceremony was Aug. 4 at the gazebo at Claytor Lake State Park. Amber Harris officiated.

    Maid of honor was Lauren Reed, friend of the bride.
    Bridesmaids were Sabrina Collins, sister of the bride and Kristie Lineberry, cousin of the bride.
    Groomsmen were Dustin Quesenberry, Jason Shaffer and Brandon Priest, friends of the bride and groom.

  • Cindy Halley of Galax is sharing her story of hope and inspiration through the book, “The Faces Behind the Pages that Inspire.”
    Halley owns GODpillow in downtown Galax, embroidering words of courage and motivation onto pillows of prayer. GODpillow promotes healing through prayer and meditation.
    Starting in October, Halley and dozens of other women will travel around the country and around the world, leading people on a journey as they tell their inspirational stories.

  • Christopher Mason Nobili celebrated his third birthday recently with family and friends with a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse party at his home in Charlotte, N.C.

    He is the son of Chris and Christina Nobili of Charlotte. He is the grandson of John and Virginia Nobili of Woodlawn, Rebecca and Danny Primm of Austinville and Arlie and Toni Hall of Fancy Gap. He is the great-grandson of Artie Belle Primm of Hillsville.

  • Italia Evelynn Rose Windham celebrated her fifth birthday Aug. 8. She is a kindergarten student at Grayson Highlands.

    She is the daughter of Camber Windham and John Windham. She has a sister, Bella; and a brother, Carmine.
